If you're like most people, your morning routine includes stopping by the office coffee pot to grab a cup of joe before getting down to business. But did you know that there's a way to make this simple act even more productive? Managers and team leaders, take note: by taking a seat at your employees' desks during this time, you can learn a lot about what's on their minds—and forge stronger bonds in the process. Here's how it works.
The next time you find yourself with a cup of coffee in hand and a few minutes to spare, take a seat at your employees' desks instead of heading back to your own. Make sure to let them know that you're not there to discuss work; you're just there to drink your coffee and be present with them. This simple act of being present with your team members will help you learn things about them that you never would have known otherwise. In addition, it will help forge stronger bonds between you and your employees.
So, why does this strategy work? For one thing, it shows that you care about your employees as people—not just as cogs in the machine. It also allows for more open and honest communication, since your employees will know that you're not there to judge them or tell them what to do. As a result, they'll be more likely to share their thoughts and feelings with you—which is exactly what you want. Of course, this strategy won't work if you're the type of manager who is always looking for an opportunity to give your employees a hard time. If that's the case, it's best to stick to the traditional way of doing things. But if you're interested in building better relationships with your team members, this is definitely worth trying. So go ahead and give it a shot—you might be surprised at what you learn. In today's fast-paced world, it can be easy to forget the importance of taking a moment to connect with our co-workers—but it's something that we should all make an effort to do. By simply sitting down with our employees during morning coffee breaks, we can learn a lot about what's on their minds—and forge stronger bonds in the process. So next time you find yourself with a cup of coffee in hand and a few minutes to spare, ditch your own desk and take a seat at one of your employee's desks instead. You might be surprised at what you learn. Peace, love & gumbo!
